PowerPole Power Supply HAT for Raspberry Pi
Technical Overview: The PowerPole Power Supply HAT provides clean, low-noise power for Raspberry Pi boards. Ripple is held below 15 mVpp and radiated emissions below 10 dBµV peak. Designed for direct stacking, it maintains full GPIO passthrough while supporting optional fans and an air duct for enhanced cooling.
Features & Functionality
- Low Ripple: <15 mV peak-to-peak ripple, ensuring stable operation for sensitive applications.
- Stackable: Full GPIO passthrough with extension header for additional HATs.
- Cooling Options: Mounting holes for Raspberry Pi Zero HATs, support for two mini fans, and optional air duct.
- Component Orientation: Upward-facing by default; downward-facing version available for enhanced RF shielding in stacked setups.
- Robust Power Delivery: Accepts 12–24 V DC input, delivers ±5 V output at up to 3 A.
Compatibility
Tested and verified with:
- Raspberry Pi 3
- Raspberry Pi 4
- Raspberry Pi 5
A dedicated variant exists for Raspberry Pi Zero: see the 2021-P-052 model.
Performance Measurements
Measurements were taken under two conditions:
- Initial boot sequence – increasing power demand.
- High CPU load – simulating peak current draw in real-world use.
Ripple Performance
Ripple voltage remains consistently <15 mVpp, preventing noise injection into sensitive circuits.
Radiated Emissions (1–500 MHz)
Tested with a compact TEM cell and 50-ohm load. Results show radiated emissions within acceptable limits, measured below 10 dBµV peak.
Test Setup
- Baseline: Pi Zero powered from a clean 5 V lab supply.
- Comparison: Pi Zero powered via the PowerPole HAT.
- Result: Both setups remained within emission limits, confirming suitability for RF-sensitive use.
