The RF.Guru Inverted V Antenna is a robust and flexible HF wire antenna system, purpose-built for effective DX and NVIS operation across the low bands. Designed for versatility and serious power handling, this antenna is available for 160m, 80m, 60m, and 40m operation.

Band Options & Wire Lengths

Each model includes two wire legs (high-quality stranded copper) you cut to resonance. Fold-back trimming is also supported.

Tuning Tip:You can either cut the wire legs to length for the center of your desired band, or cut them slightly longer and fold back the ends to fine-tune resonance without permanently shortening the wires. This gives flexibility for future adjustments.

Mounting & Balun Options

Depending on your mast material, choose the appropriate configuration:

  • Metal MastBalun-on-Mast configuration
    Includes a mounting bracket for the BALUN. You feed this configuration with a coaxial cable running up the mast to the 1:1 BALUN.
  • Carbon / Composite MastBalun-on-Ground configuration

    In this setup, the balun remains safely near ground level. The Inverted V is interconnected using a single 600Ω open wire feeder (16 meters long), with the balun mounted just above ground. The dipole legs and the ladder line are physically the same wire, forming a continuous conductor from one leg to the other. The coaxial cable feeds the 1:1 balun directly at ground level, avoiding RF coupling into conductive carbon mast structures. Our ladder line is a one-wire setup that includes a custom mounting bracket specifically designed for our carbon poles, ensuring there is no mechanical disconnect between the open-wire feed and the radiating dipole elements.

Optional Carbon Masts

Carbon masts of 6m, 10m, or 16m are available separately.

  • Center insulator and wire spacers when open-wire version is chosen – already attached to the wire + end insulators for the radiating lengs + eyelets to mount on the balun.
  • End insulators for the radiating legs + 2 thimbles, 2 Bull-dog Grips and 2 Carabiners when the metallic pole mount version is chosen

All baluns units are weatherproof and designed for efficiency and durability.

Installation Notes

  • Recommended apex height: 8–15 meters
  • Leg angle: 90–120° for optimal impedance and radiation pattern
  • Ground clearance: ensure wire ends are at least 2.5m above ground
