Why ?

A choke is essential between the ladder-line and the tuner in a doublet antenna system to block unwanted RF currents from flowing on the outside of the coaxial shield or into the tuner. Without it, you risk interference, poor tuning efficiency, and erratic radiation patterns.

In a balanced line Inverted V configuration, the choke is equally crucial to ensure that currents remain balanced on both legs of the antenna.
