DC Protect / Filter 30A 13.8V PP45

Quiet DC power for a quieter receiver.
The DC Protect/Filter 30A 13.8V PP45 is a plug-and-play inline DC conditioner designed for ham radio stations. Installed between your power supply (or battery) and your radio gear, it helps reduce conducted noise, suppress voltage spikes, and deliver a cleaner, more radio-friendly 13.8 V DC feed.

Modern stations often share DC lines with switching power supplies, chargers, fans, and other accessories. These devices can inject noise directly onto the DC wiring, raising your receiver noise floor and masking weak signals. This module targets those problems at the source—right on the DC line.

How It Works

The DC Protect/Filter combines a multi-stage LC filtering network with transient suppression and a MOSFET-based soft-start stage. Series inductance and a wide-band capacitor bank attenuate switching-supply hash and fast edge noise, while TVS protection clamps common DC spikes. The soft-start limits inrush current, reducing connector arcing and power-up stress during hot-plugging.

Ham-Radio Focused Features

  • Designed for 13.8 V DC stations (12 V nominal systems)
  • 30 A continuous inline current capability for most HF/VHF/UHF rigs and accessories
  • PP45 PowerPole input and output for fast, standard shack integration
  • Multi-stage LC filtering to reduce conducted EMI/RFI from switching supplies
  • Transient spike clamping (TVS) for added equipment protection
  • Soft-start / inrush limiting to reduce connector spark and power-up stress
  • Status LED for instant output power indication

Typical Uses

  • HF and 6 m transceivers
  • VHF/UHF mobiles used as base stations
  • SDR receivers and panadapters
  • Sensitive receive chains (preamps, distribution amplifiers)
  • Stations powered by switch-mode 13.8 V supplies or shared DC distribution

* While no DC filter can eliminate all noise sources, reducing conducted noise on the DC line often results in a noticeably lower receiver noise floor, especially with modern wideband receivers and SDRs.

Mini-FAQ

  • Is this a replacement for proper station grounding? — No. It complements good grounding and bonding practices by addressing noise conducted on the DC line.
  • Will it affect transmit power? — No. The unit is designed for low loss and supports up to 30 A continuous current.
  • Can it be hot-plugged? — Yes. The soft-start stage reduces inrush current and connector arcing.
  • Battery operation? — Yes. It can be used between a battery and your equipment for added protection and filtering.
