IronWave 6 — Rugged Multiband Vertical (40 m–10 m)
No traps. No trimming. No drama — just reliable HF performance.
The IronWave 6 is a rugged, no-nonsense multiband vertical built for operators who value simplicity, durability, and consistent results across the core HF bands — without cutting or tuning.
Out of the box it covers 40 m to 10 m effectively when paired with a sensible ground system of 16–32 short 5 m ground radials.
Enhanced 30 m/40 m DX Performance:
• With 6 × 6 m raised radials, the IronWave 6 produces a 40 m dip under 2:1 SWR while retaining full 20–10 m coverage. On 40 m the radiator is NVIS-biased but DX is possible.
• With 6 × 6 m + 6 × 8 m raised radials (trimmed), you gain 30 m resonance. This makes 30 m DX fully in range, while 40 m remains NVIS-oriented.
Sweep shows 40–10 m <3:1 SWR across all bands. With trimming, 30 m & 40 m can both be under 2:1.

Why Digi CCS Is Lower Than ICAS
ICAS (Intermittent Commercial/Amateur Service) assumes non-continuous duty and generous cool-down (typical of SSB/voice). FT8/RTTY and other digital modes are continuous duty with high crest factors, so transformer core heating and conductor I²R loss accumulate faster. For long key-down sessions, use the Digi CCS limits:
• 2.4 kW ICAS → 850 W Digi CCS
• 3.4 kW ICAS → 1.2 kW Digi CCS
Running above Digi CCS for extended periods can cause thermal stress and detuning. Ensure adequate airflow and avoid tightly enclosed housings.

SWR Sweeps

Baseline SWR sweep with 16 × 5 m ground radials. 20–10 m excellent, 30/40 m tuner required.

With 6 × 6 m raised radials: 40 m dip under 2:1 SWR, 20–10 m still covered.

With 6 × 6 m + 6 × 8 m raised radials: covers 40–10 m <3:1 SWR, tuner-friendly. Trimmed: both 30 m & 40 m under 2:1.
Maintenance Tip – Corrosion-Proof Connections
For all bolts, screws, and electrical interfaces, apply AL-1100 aluminum paste during assembly to prevent galvanic corrosion and keep contact resistance low.
How often? One thorough application at installation is typically sufficient. In harsh coastal or polluted environments, reapply every 2–3 years during inspection, or sooner if you open/retorque joints.

Mini-FAQ
- Is the IronWave 6 pre-tuned? — Yes, no trimming needed for 20–10 m. Raised radials optimize 30/40 m; trimming aligns both.
- Can I use it without radials? — Yes, but efficiency drops. Use at least 16 × 5 m ground radials.
- What power can it handle? — 2.4 kW ICAS (850 W Digi CCS ✔ Digi Safe) or 3.4 kW ICAS (1.2 kW Digi CCS ✔ Digi Safe).
- Do I need a tuner? — On 20–10 m, usually no. On 30/40 m, tuner needed unless raised radials are trimmed. Then no tuner required.
