IronWave 9 — Rugged Multiband Vertical (80 m–15 m)
No traps. No trimming. No drama — just reliable HF performance.
The IronWave 9 is a rugged, no-nonsense multiband vertical built for operators who value simplicity, durability, and consistent results across the core HF bands — without cutting or tuning.
Out of the box it covers 80 m to 15 m effectively when paired with a sensible ground system of 16–32 short 8 m ground radials.
Why Digi CCS Is Lower Than ICAS
ICAS (Intermittent Commercial/Amateur Service) assumes non-continuous duty and generous cool-down (typical of SSB/voice). FT8/RTTY and other digital modes are continuous duty with high crest factors, so transformer core heating and conductor I²R loss accumulate faster. For long key-down sessions, use the Digi CCS limits:
• 2.4 kW ICAS → 850 W Digi CCS
• 3.6 kW ICAS → 1.2 kW Digi CCS
Running above Digi CCS for extended periods can cause thermal stress and detuning. Ensure adequate airflow and avoid tightly enclosed housings.

What’s Included
-
9.0 m aluminum radiator (two-part assembly) (also available without radiator)
The bottom section consists of two nested aluminum tubes — one with a 30 mm inner diameter and one with a 35 mm inner diameter. The inner tube is lubricated with conductive aluminum paste for optimal contact. The outer tube is tapped with stainless screws every 60°, and every 1 m along its length. This fully prevents rotational slippage over time, even under high wind stress.
The upper extension (to reach full 9.0 m height) is connected via a fiberglass-reinforced internal rod, which is securely tapped into the aluminum. The aluminum section is then wrapped in conductive aluminum tape, and sealed using a UV-stable 3M adhesive shrink sleeve. This ensures both electrical continuity and moisture protection.
The result: a fully weatherproof, rigid radiator that requires no ongoing maintenance and resists wind gusts up to 80 km/h without detuning or degradation. - 2x Solid RVS mounting base (30–60 mm)
-
4:1 UNUN: Choose between:
– 2.4 kW ICAS (850 W Digi CCS)
– 3.6 kW ICAS (1.2 kW Digi CCS) - Optional: Wideband 1:1 choke (32 dB CMR)
- Optional: RVS radial plate (supports 32 radials)
- Sliding clamp system for simple assembly — no cutting needed
Optional Radial Kits
- Ground-mounted radial kits: – 16 × 8 m radials – 32 × 8 m radials
SWR Sweeps

Baseline SWR sweep with 16 × 8 m ground radials. 20–10 m excellent, 30/40 m tuner required.
Maintenance Tip – Corrosion-Proof Connections
For all bolts, screws, and electrical interfaces, apply AL-1100 aluminum paste during assembly to prevent galvanic corrosion and keep contact resistance low.
How often? One thorough application at installation is typically sufficient. In harsh coastal or polluted environments, reapply every 2–3 years during inspection, or sooner if you open/retorque joints.

Radiation Patterns
Patterns shown are simplified models for clarity — see why we use simplified models and not NEC. Real-world results vary with soil, surroundings, and installation.

Mini-FAQ
- Is the IronWave 9 pre-tuned? — Yes, no trimming needed for 80–15 m.
- Can I use it without radials? — Yes, but efficiency drops. Use at least 16 × 8 m ground radials.
- What power can it handle? — 2.4 kW ICAS (850 W Digi CCS ✔ Digi Safe) or 3.6 kW ICAS (1.2 kW Digi CCS ✔ Digi Safe).
- Do I need a tuner? — On 40–15 m, usually no. On 80/60 m, tuner needed!
