Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W
Just as small — up to five times faster than the original Zero. The Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W pairs a quad-core 64-bit Cortex-A53 SoC with integrated Wi-Fi/Bluetooth in a shielded can for better RF compliance — ideal for hotspots, SDR control, APRS/iGate nodes, and automation where size and power efficiency matter.
Key Specs
- Processor: RP3A0 SiP with quad-core 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 @ 1 GHz
- Memory: 512 MB LPDDR2
- Wireless: 2.4 GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi & Bluetooth 4.2 (shielded RF can)
- Video: mini-HDMI
- USB: 1× USB 2.0 OTG (via micro-USB)
- Storage: microSD
- GPIO: 40-pin header pads (unsoldered)
- Form factor: 65 mm × 30 mm
- Power: 5 V via USB (see RF.Guru shack power options below)
What’s Included
- Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W board
- GPIO header not included (pads only, unsoldered)
Great For
- Digital voice/data hotspots and iGates (APRS, LoRa, MMDVM)
- Compact SDR control heads and remote receivers
- Station automation, telemetry, and low-power controllers
Zero-Only Power Options (13.8 V shack → clean 5 V)
- Pi Zero Powerpole HAT (12–24 V → 5 V) — direct Powerpole input, bench-clean conversion for RF shacks.
- Powerpole 12 V → USB-C Converter (1 A) — compact in-line converter for low-power Zero builds.
Tip: Keep power leads short and choked to minimize conducted/RF noise around sensitive RF front-ends.
Compatibility Notes
- Works with HATs and pHATs, but requires soldering if GPIO is needed.
- For USB peripherals (SDR sticks, etc.), use a quality OTG adapter and a choked USB lead for RF hygiene.
- For always-on nodes, prefer converted 13.8 V shack power over switcher wall-warts to reduce noise.
